Hotel Playa Mazatlán - Information and Photos
Hotel Playa Mazatlán as viewed from the beach
The Hotel Playa Mazatlán was the first and is still one of the best hotels in the Golden Zone tourist zone in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico.
This hotel was the first hotel on Playa Las Gaviotas beach in 1955 and has expanded and been updated many times since! It started out as a motel and has grown into a large hotel. Be sure to check out the old photos in the restaurant lobby showing it as a motel! Their website also has a fantastic 'Our History' section that has many old photos and narrative! So, the Hotel Playa Mazatlán has so much experience catering to guests especially Canadians and Americans! This is the hotel we most recommend to 1st time visitors to Mazatlán.

The reason we recommend this hotel so highly is that it has good security, is clean, and knows how to cater to Canadian and American tourists. It is located on the best part of Las Gaviotas beach. The rooms are average. They are continually updating them so it depends on the room that you get. There are many rooms that have balconies facing the ocean. There is a medium sized pool. The restaurant is excellent. It is located on a patio just above the beach. It has one of the best breakfast buffets in all of Mazatlán! They have a few shops on the hotel property, e.g. a convenience store, clothes stores. The Canadian consulate was located in the hotel complex on the street for many years, but has since moved locations. The US Consulate is located directly across the street from the hotel. BONUS: Joe's Oyster Bar, the best bar in Mazatlan, is located right next to the hotel! The hotel also holds a big Mexican Fiesta party once or twice a week depending on the season and a monthly variety show with the Brenster and Carrum and special musical guests. This show is quite popular. Also, the hotel has 2 private beach areas where there are permanent beach umbrellas and molded chairs and lounge chairs. You can order food and drinks and not be bothered by the beach vendors. A unique thing about this hotel is that they have a bunch of rocking chairs. It is really cool to sit in them and just rock back and forth. The hotel doesn't have much parking. Recently, the hotel has added an 'Adventure Centre' which has a zip line and rock climbing wall.
The hotel has a 500 seat theatre, El Venado Theatre Hall, on-site in which they host 'theme nights'. Some of the themes are: Audience Participation Night, Beach Party, Caribean Night, International Night, Lip-Sync Night, Mexican Night, Movie Night, and Magic Journey.
All rooms offer individually controlled air conditioning, purified running water, direct-dial telephone, satellite TV and movies, balcony/terrace, full-menu room service, daily maid service, hair dryer, alarm clock, and body care basket. Some rooms offer flatscreen TVs, kitchenettes, jacuzzis, and private swimming pools. The hotel also offers complimentary safety deposit boxes, on-site tour and travel agency, car rental, dry cleaning and laundry serice, 24 hour on-call doctor, complimentary on-site nurse, money changing, fitness center and spa, concierge services, business centre, free wireless internet access, hair salon, supervised child care and activities, and 3 swimming pools.
The hotel has a fitness center which has some exercise equipment and free weights. The hotel also has a spa that is available for massages and saunas.
